COURSES OFFERED
PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION
Promotional Examination is an institutional based theoretical evaluation which shall be administered to students at the end of every academic year. Academic year begins when a student has been in college for one year and is due for his/her annual leave.
The student shall proceed to the senior level upon certifying the examiners. Failure to attain the required grade (60%) the student shall retake the exam once. If a student fails again then he/she will be referred to the next junior class. The promotional exam to the senior level is also known as final qualifying college examination.
SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS
Supplementary papers should be done within 2-3 weeks of the release of the examination results. Students to make the necessary arrangements to avail themselves for the re-sit. The concerned students will be expected to pay the relevant fee.
INSTITUTIONAL FINAL QUALIFYING EXAMINATION (FQE)
Each student is required to sit for a college final examination towards the end of the training. Before the student is allowed to attempt this exam, he/she is required to fill a clearance form with the college administration. Failure to attain the required pass mark in each paper, a student will only re-sit once having paid a supplementary fee of Kshs. 500/- per paper. In the event a candidate fails to satisfy the board of examiners, he/she will be demoted for a period of six months. The involved parent/guardian/sponsor shall be informed of the decision.
N/B: Any student who fails to satisfy the academic requirements at any given point and would wish to get his/her credit transfer must serve his/her period of academic demotion/discipline for the credit to make merit for the transfer. The application must be done at least a month before the intended date of credit transfer.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
DURING CLASS SESSIONS
a) Students are expected to attend each class and to arrive on time. All absences must be permissible by the Class Lecturer/Principal.
b) Students are expected to do reading assignments prior to the class.
c) Students are responsible for the reading assignments whether or not they are discussed in class. There may be unannounced quizzes over material covered in reading assignments or previous classwork.
d) Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner during classroom, clinical and during assessments.
e) No chewing of gum in classroom or practical areas while on duty.
f) Mobile phones should be switched off in classroom and clinical areas.
g) The classroom must be kept clean and tidy at all times.
DURING EXAMINATIONS
a) Students are not allowed to bring any papers, books and notes into the classroom. They are allowed to bring:
• Pens/pencils
• Rubbers
• Rulers
• Calculators
• Clip boards
Examination numbers and papers are passed out by the lecturer supervising the examination
b) Absconding examination will result to disqualification of that paper and a warning letter.
c) Invigilators for examinations will keep track of time and give students reminders of remaining time e.g. 1 hour, ½ hour etc. At 5 minutes prior to the end of the examination, students are required to ensure that they have rechecked the completeness of their examination papers, numbering and labelling.
d) Cheating of any kind in examinations will lead to disciplinary action from the school administration.
e) Whenever you fail an end block examination paper and are on leave, you will be required to return to school to study and resit that particular paper. It is therefore advised that you leave your most recent contact details such as telephone numbers with the School and keep the School contacts with you at all times. It should be noted that it is the responsibility of the student to seek information from the school as to whether you have been successful or not across all papers and when you are to be expected back at School. Failure to do so will lead to disciplinary action.
HANDING OVER ASSIGNMENTS
i) Always staple all your assignment papers together before handing over to the respective lecturers.
ii) Ensure you have written your name and admission numbers on all papers that constitute your written assignments.
iii) Hand over your assignments in folders and not as loose sheets to ensure assignments are not misplaced. Please endeavour to have a good supply of folders for this particular purpose.
iv) Ensure that the assignment deadlines are met promptly.
v) Any losses are your sole responsibility regardless of where they occur. Secretaries, lecturers, librarians should be able to provide you with a stapler use at that moment if you don’t have a personal one.
vi) Failure to hand over any academic assignment(s) on time can lead to a verbal/written warning letter being served to the student.
COURSE EVALUATION
Students carry out subject and class evaluation after each class session in conjuction with the class lecturer. These evaluations are analysed for the purpose of improving the course and its teaching processes. The summary of evaluations is filed with the Principal who will use them in the performance management exercises and quality improvements.
